Chrome: Jailbreak the Patriarchy

Jailbreak the Patriarchy

It’s a Google Chrome extension. Looking at the source, it’s not bad for a first time. (I would have used replacement || match instead of the ternary operator, and that big block of replaces could probably have been done some other way but I’m not regexy enough to figure out how.)

I’ve never liked re-gendering; often it ends up sounding like a threat, but this line is just gold:

the matriarchy also hurts women

I don’t know whether to agree or laugh mockingly.

Edit: It’s also on GitHub and I know enough about Firefox extension development to never do so (three days just to get Hello, World to install!). Anybody?

He’s a Living Embodiment

He’s a living embodiment
of Simone de Beauvoir’s theories—
he can’t see that he’s a huge gender warrior,
because he doesn’t think
of masculinity as a “gender.”

Gender is something those things have,
those women, those Others.
Masculinity isn’t a gender,
but the human condition,
and gender is just a lack that women have.

Cards and circle jerks — Amanda Marcotte

Yes, I took someone else’s writing and turned it into poetry. This was supposed to be included in a larger project that never saw completion.

Liber CCLXXVII (Liber Zoe)

“the law of
the wise:
this is our law
and the joy
of the world.”—AL. II. 2

“Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.”—AL. I. 40

“Thou hast no right but to do thy will. Do that, and no other shall say nay.”—AL. I. 42–3

“Every man and every woman is a star.”—AL. I. 3

There is no goddess but woman.

  1. Woman has the right to live by her own law—
to live in the way that she wills to do:
    to work as she will:
    to play as she will:
    to rest as she will:
    to reproduce as she will:
to cease reproduction as she will:
to die when and how she will.
  2. Woman has the right to eat what she will:
    to drink what she will:
    to dwell where she will:
to move as she will on the face of the earth.
  3. Woman has the right to think what she will:
    to speak what she will:
    to write what she will:
to draw, paint, carve, etch, mould, build as she will:
    to dress as she will.
  4. Woman has the right to love as she will:—
“take your fill and will of love as ye will,
when, where, and with whom ye will.”—AL. I. 51
  5. Woman has the right to kill those who would thwart these rights.
“the slaves shall serve.”—AL. II. 58

“Love is the law, love under will.”—AL. I. 57

(Don’t worry; I’m sure we’re using “woman” in the gender-neutral sense.)
